Moore Masonic Lodge #539

Moore Masonic Lodge No. 539, A.F.&A.M., officially began March 24, 1954 when a charter for Moore Lodge U.D. was issued by the Grand Lodge of Oklahoma. There were 46 members on the Moore Lodge U.D. charter. One year later, February 9, 1955 the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Ancient, Free and Accepted Masons of the State of Oklahoma issued a charter to Moore Lodge No. 539, Moore, Oklahoma.

There were 75 Masons who were listed as Charter Members on this new charter. The original meeting place for the lodge was at 116 East Main St. This was a two story building on the south side of the street that had two businesses on the ground floor. The East half of the building was the Lett & Percival Rexall Drug Store. The west half of the building was the Albert Smith Grocery Store. All three of these men - Robert Lett, Albert Smith and Charlie Percival were charter members of the Lodge. The original meeting place of the lodge was upstairs in the East half of the building over the drug store.

The lodge was later enlarged to include the west half of the building and was used for a kitchen and dining room. Social functions for the Eastern Star and Rainbow Girls were also held there.

When it was announced that the building would be torn down to make room for the expansion of the First National Bank, the lodge purchased nine lots at 301 East Main for a new building. It was built by the members and most all of the labor and materials were donated, much of it by non masons. On May 12, 1973 the corner stone on the new lodge building was laid by Most Worshipful John Preble, Grand Master of the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of the State of Oklahoma and Grand Lodge Officers.

Moore Lodge No. 539 has grown from its humble beginning with 47 masons to a thriving, vibrant lodge with over 200 members, and more than half of which are Perpetual Members. Moore Lodge has four Past Grand Masters of the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of the State of Oklahoma among its membership.

The Lodge participates in many community activities including Vizavance, Student of Today and Teacher of the Year for all of Moore Schools, a year round pantry program, and many others on an as requested basis.
